WORLD TOILET EXPO & FORUM 2006 GETS STRONG BACKING

Thailand Ministry of Public Health hosts the event in Bangkok

15 November 2005, Bangkok and Singapore – Bangkok will play host to the 2nd World Toilet Expo & Forum from 16 to 18 November 2006. Organised by the World Toilet Organization (WTO) and MP Asia Pte Ltd, the event has received strong backing from the government and non-government groups.

The 2006 event is hosted by the Thailand Ministry of Public Health and co-hosted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Faculty of Public Health, Population and Community Development Association, and Thailand Environment Institute. It is supported by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and 47 WTO member associations from 35 countries.

The staging of Expo and Forum in Bangkok is in line with the government’s “Healthy Thailand” campaign. Earlier, the ministry has announced its development strategy for Thai public toilets based on the three principles of health, accessibility and safety. Its vision is to make available clean public toilets and to educate and encourage users to exercise good toilet hygiene practices.

The World Toilet Expo & Forum is a series of events created by the WTO to address specific issues of significance to the host cities. The first event took off successfully in Shanghai in May 2005.

The World Toilet Expo & Forum 2006 will underscore Thailand’s drive towards better public toilet facilities. Speaking at a press conference in Bangkok today, Mr Jack Sim, WTO Founder, said: “For a start, we hope that the event will be a catalyst and facilitate Thailand towards the progressive development and standardisation of public toilet services. We hope to garner participation from all sectors to help develop international standard public toilets and effective toilet management in the country.”

The 2006 event at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center will be an excellent platform for the international and local communities to explore ways to improve the living environment, exchange ideas, network and to source innovative products and services in the hygiene and toilet-related industries.

The Expo will feature a thematic display on the development of toilets in Thailand. It will also showcase the latest toilet-related trends, technologies and products and services from leading industry names. The Forum will feature keynotes, presentations by an international panel of speakers. Technical visits are also being planned to allow participants to gain insights into current and developmental trends of public toilets in Thailand.
